I'm Mike Porky Par Perry and we're about to deliver the book review the book review or as I like to call it the

Porky review of books because it sounds more like the New York Times that does yeah

you've been reading this is where Porky tells us what books he's been reading.

And whether it's worth reading them for you, from your point of view.

So what have you been reading is, right?

Now, I suppose you could call him a legendary

legendary military historian is Max Hastings okay now Max Hastings has written a

book about Vietnam.

It's called The Epic Tragedy by Max Hastings,

and it has already been hailed as one of the most authoritative accounts

of what was one of the bloodiest wars, really, of the 20th century. Horrible war in which men suffered and too many people lost their lives.

53,000 Americans I think lost their lives.

That's exactly the figure that he quotes 52,000 American.

Now most of them were young, you know, poverty-stricken boys who joined the army because they,

nothing else to do from Chicago.

Well, they were conscripted into it, right?

A lot of them were.

And a lot of people like Bill Clinton made, you know know great attempts to avoid the draft yes and I'm not

saying that Billy Clinton old friend of mine of course will include and I'm not

suggesting that he deliberately avoided the draft but he didn't end up in Vietnam and a lot of other people did

sent their kids to Canada I mean it's a very divisive war at home as well as of way
