Hey, this is Dan McCollum. Today I am joined by Jordan Kramer, and we're going to be talking about

hypercalemia today. Hey, everybody. This is Jordan Kramer, and I have the pleasure of speaking

with Dr. McCollum about hypercalimia, and we're going to go through some cool stuff. We're going to

hit some basics and see what happens. So let's launch into a case.

You have a 42-year-old man arriving by EMS, and they say that he's not feeling very well.

He overall just feels run down and fatigued. He's missed his last several dialysis appointments,

and he's well known to the paramedics that are bringing him in. He's often calling out for

things such as chest pain.

And then when they've asked him about it, he says,

I only go to Dallas every few weeks or so.

He comes in to your bay.

What are the first things that you're worried about?

Yeah, so I don't think I've ever had a case like this, to be honest.

All joking aside, I mean, we all have cases like this that come in all the time.

So, Jordan, while the nursing staff is getting the patient hooked up to monitors and things like that,

what are some important parts of the history that you would approach for this patient?

So some of the important parts of the history are going to be truly when was this patient's

last dialysis?

Why were they unable to make it to dialysis or what was preventing them to dialysis?

Thinking about disposition and treatment later on down the road, these questions are going to be very

helpful.

Also asking, what have your symptoms been?
