Certainly, you know the names of Rudyard Kipling, H.G. Wells, Ramstoker, Conan Doyle.

But there have been others, dozens of men and women, not so well known, who have likewise been infatuated with the terror summoned up by ghosts.

I give you, for example, Fitz James O'Brien, I'm young Northcoat, Mrs. Henry Wood, but the list goes on and on, and we best cut it short and get to the tale, which we have chosen to call Once Upon an Island.
