For any new listeners, my name is Andrea.

I am a big old shit show and if you are wondering what the

hell an adult child is allow me to tell you so this definition comes from the 12 step program, adult children of alcoholic and dysfunctional families.

Now mind do, I just want to say there are a lot of people think that this term adult child is only applicable to people who grew up in an alcoholic family when the fact is

is that there are so many types of families may I say all families all families that could produce an adult child. But ACA defines an adult child

is someone who responds to adult situations with self-doubt, self-blame, or a sense of being wrong or inferior, all as a result of their childhood experiences.

Does that sound like you? Let me give you one more definition. An adult child is someone who's unresolved

childhood pain surfaces and plays out in adulthood and not in a good way.

Okay, not in a good way. Okay, not in a good way.

There are just so many people out there who don't realize that they're an adult child

and who don't realize that the recurring issues that they're encountering in life,

whether that's in work or romance or in friendship or in whatever, is 99.999% most likely related to their unresolved childhood shit and that's why I created this

podcast in hopes of reaching those people because I used to be one of those people

I spent many many years in a shitload of pain, specifically in romantic relationships,

having no idea that what I was experiencing was complex PTSD.
