Summary

In this week's episode, an experienced hunter shares the story of his recent hunting accident and shares a gun safety reminder with us. Most of us, at one time or another, have a lapse of judgement when handling a firearm. Fortunately, most of the time, nothing bad or harmful happens and we often don't even realize what we just got away with because nothing negative happened. A friend of mine recently shot himself in the hand while hunting because he committed two firearm safety sins on one hunt. Today, he shares the story of how the accident happened as a reminder for us to slow down and think before we make a big mistake when handling guns.

1:20.1	Hello and welcome back to this week's episode of the Turkey Hunter podcast.
1:24.1	You are listening to Episode 110, a gun safety reminder. You know, a couple of weeks ago,
1:33.3	we had our opening of gun season for deer in Alabama, and, you know, I told you guys that I had a pretty
1:41.3	productive weekend in the woods. That weekend I shot a hog and I killed
1:46.6	three deer. I actually picked up those deer from the processor this past week, so I've got meat
1:53.6	in the freezer and I actually still have some meat aging in the refrigerator. So times are good
1:59.4	around my house right now. You know, as much fun as I had in the deer woods that weekend, I was pretty disturbed by a message that I got in a group text chain that a bunch of my friends and I are in.
2:12.6	And the message came from a friend of mine Friday night saying that his dad shot himself in the hand
2:21.2	with a muzzleloader that afternoon. Now, that's never something you want to hear, but it was
2:26.8	really disturbing to me because his dad's been around guns and is hunted for the majority of his
2:33.1	life. And, you know, I just was kind of
2:36.0	bewildered as to how that could happen. Of course, I was glad to hear that he was going to be okay,
2:41.8	and that, in the grand scheme of thing, his injury was very minor. But still, I just couldn't wrap
