In the early 1930s, a wave of economic recessions, contractions, and depressions would affect many nations around the world.

This depression, which would later be known as the Great Depression, would have a wide variety of causes and consequences.

During the Depression, international trade would drop dramatically, and nations would take drastic economic actions to try and safeguard their own national

economies and to try and ease the economic hardship experienced by their citizens.

There had been depressions before, but however none of them had been as pervasive and seemingly

unstoppable.
