I was falling through space.

I couldn't control it, and I was panicking as this great force was hurtling me towards the inevitable.

And then I was in the deepest, darkest lake.

And all around me in the shadows were monsters and demons, huge and faceless, or twisted and scuttling, who raced across the black mud towards me.

And the fear was so great. I lost all sense of myself. I was just pure terror. I knew this was death. This was oblivion.

And is that when your NDE ended? Yeah. I never had the ecstasy or the white light. None of that.

I've always felt I didn't deserve happiness in my life.

But now, I know I don't deserve it in death either.

It left me very frightened a dying, Professor.

I don't want to go back there. I really don't. If I can try to reassure you, I would say your experience was incomplete.

Many NDEs begin with the struggle and fear that is denial and then ego death,

before the transformation to a place of serenity and connectiveness.

There is nothing to say you would not move through those stages successfully when your next death occurs.

I mention it because he argues that the individual and the species mind are interwoven together outside of the brain.

We have a collective consciousness where the emotions we feel can achieve a resonance with the emotions of others,

even if we've never had any contact with them.

How is that a good thing?
