Hello and welcome to Kid News, I'm Tori.

It's November 21st,

and we're turning off the microphone to spend a few days

with friends and family to celebrate the American holiday

Thanksgiving. But Kid News wouldn't be Kid News without delivering a few holiday

fun facts like Turkey wasn't even served at the first Thanksgiving back in 1621.

Instead the pilgrims feasted on fish, deer, duck, and loads of vegetables.

The holiday didn't become official until Abraham Lincoln declared it so in 1863.

Sarah Josepha Hale, the woman who wrote Mary had a little lamb, convinced him to make it a national celebration after writing letters for

17 years.

And there are two towns in the United States actually named Turkey, one in Texas, the other in North Carolina.

Our Kid News team won't be gone for long.
