Good morning and welcome to Kid News. I'm Kim. Today is Wednesday, November 11th, 2020.

And we begin with a day to fly the American flag and honor all those who've served our country.

Today is Veterans Day, a federal holiday always celebrated on the 11th of November

to mark the truce that was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in

1918 and brought an end to the fighting in World War I.

The Treaty of Versailles came later and was the formal declaration that the war was over, but November 11th

is still recognized as the true end of the conflict.

What's the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day?

Both honor soldiers, but Memorial Day is reserved for those who died fighting for our country.

While Veterans Day is a day to celebrate all who wore the uniform of the United States, whether they did so during a time of war or a time of peace.

There's some bark returning to the White House.

President-elect Biden is bringing with him two German

Shepherds. Champ is a 12-year-old who Mr. Biden says thinks he's part of the

secret service team. Major is two, was adopted as a puppy and will be the first shelter pet to ever live at

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Both have had starring roles on the family's social feed,

most notably with the saying,

Red State or Blue State, we can all agree on the power of dogs.

Almost every president has had a four-legged friend,

but Theodore Roosevelt took it a step further.

He owned dozens of other animals, including a one-legged rooster, a pig, a badger, and horses. Taking the cake for oddest pet though,
