Summary

Mark Boardman and Erik Barber chat through Erik’s archery life before and after the back bar. Will a back bar make you a better bow shot, or are they another accessory for the bow shop to send you out the door with? I mean, why sell one when you can sell two? It’s no mystery why the word stable is built into the word stabilizer. A stable, steady hold is imperative for executing, accurate, precise, and confident shots. But how many do you need? Do you need a back bar?

What is up, everybody? I have Mr. Eric Barber across from me today, and we're going to talk about the back bar. Now we're not going out for cocktails, unfortunately, it is 8 a.m.

0:13.0

Yeah, at press time.

0:15.0

So, but back bars on Bose, you have one on your boat. If you're watching on YouTube, you can see Eric's bow. It's all set up here today. He's got a back bar on it.

0:24.0

I don't have a back bar on my boat. That's why I didn't bring it in because it's kind of irrelevant. I've never put a back bar on it. I've been thinking about putting a back bar on it. I actually have a back bar.

I was getting ready for a recent hunt, and I'm like, you know what? I'm changing a lot of things, but I'm just going to not do that yet, even though it's on my mind.

0:44.0

Now, the archery shop that I went to, every bow that I went that I saw there, that a person brought in, all back bars.

0:52.0

They're hot right now.

0:53.0

They're so hot right now. Now, Remy Warren was recently at Vortex. We did kind of a rundown on his bow. One of the most insane killers out there.

1:03.0

Nope. No back bar.

1:05.0

Exactly. When I look at a back bar, I think the first thing you got to do is you got to take a step back and identify what do the, what is the intent of stabilizers on a bow?

1:15.0

What are they for? And I guess what's in the name, right?

1:18.0

Exactly.

1:19.0

Stable Lizer.

1:20.0

Exactly. So what you like to consider a back bar, you first got to look at the whole stable is a stabilization system as a whole, right?

1:28.0

So you know, if you're watching on YouTube, you see there's a front bar on this and a back bar off the back.

1:34.0

My setup, I have a 10 degree drop on my front bar and I have two ounces of weight on the end.

1:41.0

The reason for that is I'm trying to pull weight away from the bow and lower the center of gravity of it.

1:48.0

So one of the best analogies in regards to the front bar that I've ever heard is like picture a hockey stick, right?

1:54.0

And you're holding it by the blade of the stick.

1:58.0

So you have all the weight in your hand and you have just a light handle pointing outward.

2:03.0

Well, you can whip that thing all over the place, right?

2:06.0

But now if you reverse your grip on that hockey stick and you're holding it by the handle and you have the blade out at the front, all your weight is at the front, it's harder to move that thing laterally, left to right.
