Summary

People often ask us if they can paint their riflescope without causing any kind of rip in the VIP-Warranty-Time-Continuum. The answer is yes – you’re still covered even if you paint it. Unless it’s ugly… Just kidding! But what are the different methods out there for painting or “Coating” your riflescope? Whether it’s just for looks or for a specific application like camouflage for a hunting rifle, coating your scope (and gun) can be a ton of fun and give you a very unique looking package. Just make sure if it’s a Vortex scope to send us some pics when it’s all done!

All right, what's up everybody? We have 10 minutes here to talk about painting your scope, or maybe I should even just say actually coding your scope, because depending on what we're going to talk about, you may have a different technical term for it.

In front of us here on the table is an example of a... may have a different technical term for it.

0:13.0

In front of us here on the table is an example of a firearm and scope that I painted at one point

0:17.3

in time.

0:18.3

Did it for probably about less than 25 bucks.

0:20.8

There's a lot of different ways to do it though, and we get questions about it a lot. I'd say the biggest

0:24.7

question we get asked for folks out there is first off, will it void the warranty?

0:30.0

That's an easy answer.

0:31.0

Answer, no. No, it will not void the warranty although just to avoid

0:36.1

perhaps a little bit of a pain on your end of ever having to you know deal with

0:39.7

something they accidentally screwed up we figured we could give some tips and tricks slash ideas,

0:44.8

whatever it might be, and because it can be fun, you know, and not everybody wants to have their

0:49.2

gun or scope look like everybody else is out there. So a couple of things. Why don't we start off with

0:54.3

probably the easiest and cheapest way of doing it, which is the old classic

0:59.2

Rattlecan. Yes sir. That's like what we have in front of us right now. This, like I said, is a gun that I spray painted a while back with the scope on it. And that's actually one thing I'll start off with too, whenever you're going to be painting a rifle scope, we'd recommend that you do it

1:14.6

when the scope is actually in the rings. So you'd set up essentially your scope and

1:19.6

rings. You would get your eye relief proper, have the scope set up exactly where you want it on the gun,

1:25.0

and then just remove the scope inside of the rings still, so just basically take the rings off the base with the scope inside of them and then go to paint it or just keep it on the gun and

1:34.9

paint everything all is one like you see in front of us here.

1:38.9

That will help you out just because the exterior diameter of that scope tube and then the interior diameter of the scope rings are a pretty precise thing there.

1:49.0

And for example, right now in front of us I used on my rattle can, I used a sort of matte finish,

1:55.8

but also a textured finish paint.
