Why are we Catholic? I'm Dr. Taylor Marshall, you know me and I'm here today with

Dr. Gavin Ashindon and he's well known. He has a podcast. He was the chaplain to Queen Elizabeth

the second. And Dr. Ashinden, welcome. Today I want to talk about with you kind of both of our experience

having both been Anglican clergy, you being a bishop, Anglican bishop, me being

Anglican priest, why we became Catholic, personal reasons, theological reasons.

But I wanted to welcome you and lead off with, I read a story about, of course, you being

chaplain to Queen Elizabeth in England. a passage from the Quran? In your capacity?

Taylor, hi.

Thank you for having me on.

So that's, it's wonderful how stories develop.

That's half, that's half true. The truth is worse really. I've been I've been teaching at a university for 25 years and the whole thing about being chaplains

of the Queen is it's very English it's both it's both real and unreal so it's real in the

sense that you you really are a chaplain and you hang around Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and the Royal Family talk to you. It's unreal in the sense that the Queen is a is a constitutional figure who doesn't share her personal life in any way with anybody outside the immediate family.

And so the kind of the real implants you have is cosmetic. However, you are at the

center of things and so and you do get an opportunity to develop friendships with

the rest of the royal family. My father for, and Prince Philip served on the same ship and the same

North Sea convoy. They were first and second lieutenants together, so he and I would sometimes

talk about the war and about dad and odd things that happened.

So there was an element of personal reality.

But to say you were chaplain as the Queen

gives it an authoritative integrity that isn't real

because of the way English constitutional life works so I need to make that disclaimer but I knew and I was there that the
