First, I want you to imagine caring for a child who feels very anxious.

They are often acting in ways that are restless, impulsive.

They have difficulty communicating their thoughts, wants, and needs. They're just like,

eh, make it, fix it. They may be irritable. They may be easily set off. They have difficulty

stepping back and seeing other people's perspectives or ways to solve the problem.

And they are hypervigilant to everything. When we feel unsafe, we tend to

be more aware of everything around us because we're trying to protect ourselves from threats.

And that's called hypervigilance. When all of these things happen, it's exhausting. And if you're taking care of this child who is just constantly on the move and impulsive and can't focus and easily set off, as a caregiver, you can feel exhausted at day's end.
