I'd like to welcome everybody to today's counselor education presentation on new insights

regarding narcissistic personality and narcissistic behaviors. I'm your host, Dr. Donnelly's

Snipes. Today we're going to explore the unique physiological and neurological traits of

individuals with NPD. Yeah, they're actually to explore the unique physiological and neurological traits of individuals

with NPD.

Yeah, they're actually wired differently.

We'll explore how inflammation and gut dysbiosis may contribute to symptoms, review factors

that may have contributed to the development of their symptoms, identify strategies to build

rapport and engage, and then identify treatment strategies.

First thing I want to start off with, and I've said this a bunch of times before, behavior is

caused by something. We are triggered, motivated, stimulated to act, to behave based on something.

Behavior that's reinforced will increase. So if when I throw a temper tantrum, I get my way,

then you can darn well bet I'm going to throw that temper tantrum again to get my way.

If the behavior is punished, it will decrease. So in some people with narcissistic traits,

we may see behaviors that have evolved because they've been rewarded. They've been reinforced.

And remember, with a personality disorder, the behavior has to have been present since

late adolescence, early adulthood.

The behavior has to be inflexible, and it has to be pervasive in most areas of the

person's life, not just at work, not just with

intimate relationships.

It has to infiltrate or permeate every aspect of the person's life.

Otherwise, it's just narcissistic traits.
