Can we talk about something else?

Hello! Hello. I often long for the time without smartphones back when I used to think for myself, proactively learn and could just

disappear by walking out the door. And I can hear it now from some of you because I have a smartphone and you can reach out to me,

quote, thinking for yourself is still a choice, Jack.

Really? Why? Because you say so? Email from some stoic stranger in my smartphone?

I myself strive to be a stoic, believe it or not. Of course I do share my pain and

hardship here at times, but this isn't real.

As far as I can tell, I'm alone in a closet at the back of my garage, and this is a journal of sorts.

But in reality, I'm part of it, aren't I? I'm doing it right now, what I wish

wasn't here. Influencing. We're all influenced these days, heavily, by a device we've allowed to be stitched to our lives,

we even pay to have it attached to us.

And now there are no spare moments, no quiet times for reflection.

Just scrolling through reels until we giggled and go scrambling to show a friend the funny

we found.

A friend or a loved one. even the language of love has become simulated. But come on now. Let's not be too negative. There's nothing we can do about it now. It's too late. As a practicing stoic, may I suggest that perhaps

smartphones have made it difficult for the Bundies, BTKs, Ramirezes, and ridgues of the world to operate. Keep that in mind throughout

this episode, an episode that takes place in a time before smartphones. But also keep in mind

that I just spoke out of both sides of my mouth and there are others out there who can do that too, others who will snatch that thing from your hands and toss it down a sewer grate.

And then it's truly too late.
