Summary

Courtney Carver of Be More With Less shares her little guide to starting small. Episode 1074: The Little Guide to Starting Small by Courtney Carver of Be More With Less on Simple Living Courtney Carver was stopped in her tracks with a scary MS diagnosis after decades of debt, discontent, and trying to do it all. She had to slow down, prioritize her health, and figure out what was really important in her life. She discovered what mattered most by getting rid of everything that didn’t matter at all. In the end it all came down to love and health. She went from a busy, overwhelmed advertising director to spending 2-3 hours every morning taking care of herself, loving her work, and being present and engaged with the people she loves. Her family changed, too. They moved from wanting bigger closets, nicer furniture, and more stuff to downsizing into a 750 sq. ft apartment with no storage. Courtney has written books, courses, and hundreds of articles to help you simplify your life and work so you can focus on what really matters. Every lasting change that I've made has started with one small step. I've made my share of

go-bigger-go-home moves, but after a while my momentum waned and the new habits faded.

In the last few years, I wised up. My changes have been slow and deliberate,

instead of fast and furious. Life changes all the time, so we have to change too. We can't

treat our bodies like we are 22 when we are 42. We can't be as self-serving as we were before

1:06.4

we had children. We can't ignore the health implications of diet and lifestyle when we know so much.

We can't work soulless jobs when we know they are killing us. We can choose to change,

1:17.6

or we can wait until we don't have a choice. How often have you considered making a change and then

thought, it will take too long. I don't know if it will work. People will think I'm weird.

1:27.6

Someone else already did it better than I can. I'm not ready. I don't want to. I could never do that.

Why bother if it ain't broke? I've used every excuse in the book and hope that I can save you the

trouble of working through them on your own. Excuses typically aren't well thought out reasonable

objections, but instead an expression of fear to change. I hope this will help you take those

excuses off the table. It will take too long. It will take just as long regardless of the start
