Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, wherever you are in the world and today we talk about the word

Catholic and we're gonna look at Saint Ignatius Saint Irenaeus,

Tertullian, Saint Cyberian, Saint Augustine, and several of the earliest known church documents relating to this word Catholic was embraced by the earliest followers of the

apostles and it's a word that became controversial in the 1500s the Reformation and those who remained

faithful to Rome continued to call themselves Catholic and for the most part even

the Anglican Church a Church of England and the Lutheran churches, even the Calvinist denominations,

still retain the word Catholic in their creeds, of course they accept the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene

Creed, which have the word Catholic, and then we're going to look at that today.

But they kind of always said, well, we're small C Catholic, we're not the Roman Catholic or evangelical Catholic or Anglo Catholic but

from the earliest days Catholic meant universal from kata in Greek kata according to and then holos the whole

according to the whole and it's really hard if you're a Lutheran which is a minority
