Summary

This just in: public historian Lauren Kennedy joins Dolls of Our Lives for a special supplement. Lauren works as Digital Projects Coordinator for Ohio Memory. In addition to being super knowledgeable about material culture and American Girl fandom, Lauren has the scoop on the ins and outs of Ohio's digital newspaper collections. We talked to Lauren about intrepid journalist Kit Kittredge and her homemade paper Hard Times (not yet on microfilm). She gave us an insider's perspective on digitization work and what was popular in Ohio's print media during the Great Depression.

0:35.3

is I'm using a Dell laptop, like not a Dell, but like a DELL. So I have a beach background

0:41.7

and I have my MacBook, which sounds like it's ready to like operate as a fan. Yes. So

0:48.0

it's kind of like, it's a passion piece for me. So, okay. Modern company. I love this

0:52.3

is like performance art. I'm really into it. And speaking of fans, we have someone of

0:56.4

whom we're both a fan. We have Lauren Kennedy with us today. We'll introduce her more in

1:01.0

a moment, but we're so excited to be talking about kit and newspapers, and just all of it.

1:07.1

1:11.0

then like let people decide which Kennedy we were able to not, but I think we have the

1:15.5

best Kennedy, which is Lauren. Yes. Who wrote to us from the Ohio History Connection. So

1:21.2

Lauren, if you'd like to say hello to the people from the state that begins and ends with an

1:25.1

oh, oh, hi, I'm Lauren, like Alison said, I'm from the Ohio History Connection, and I also grew

1:32.9

up in the time of kit and American Girl Dolls. And so I was interested in having conversations with

1:37.5

you guys today about Ohio newspapers and kit and just chatting about it. I'm very excited.

1:43.0

Well, I mean, first of all, I can't go a minute further without knowing like, are you of the

1:47.5

Kennedy's like, where are you at? I genuinely have no idea. To be honest with you, I know there's

1:53.4

Irish Kennedys and there's Scottish Kennedys and I'm an Irish Kennedy. So maybe somewhere way back
