I'd like to welcome everybody today's presentation on the overview of total family intervention.

In this presentation, we're obviously not going to learn everything there is to know about interventions.

My goal is to help you understand what it is.

So when you hear about it happening, you know what's going on and you can formulate some ideas.

We want to identify who typically does an intervention and for what reasons and explore the

basic steps of an intervention. Now, we do have a class at all CEUs. We have a track that has

over 100 hours that helps train people to do interventions because there is a lot to know.

Interventions are approaches like in SBIRT.

If you look up SBIRT online or go to SAMHSA and look it up, it stands for screening,

brief intervention and referral for treatment.

This is your most basic form of intervention.

And SAMHSA has really promoted it as a tool for

primary care physicians to do interventions in office when they have identified that somebody

that they are treating has a problem.

So interventions are approaches or meetings designed to facilitate entry into the

into treatment by a person with an addiction or a mental health issue who is not yet in the

action phase of change. Now remember with our phases of change, we've got pre-contemplation.

The person says, I don't have a problem. Leave me alone. Contemplation,

they recognize they've got a problem, but it's overwhelming to even think about moving on.

Preparation, they know they've got a problem. They're starting to look around at their options to think about what they might do.
