Summary

In this episode of the Anxiety Coaches Podcast, I delve into part two of our discussion on how negative thinking fuels anxiety and, more importantly, what actionable steps you can take to combat this pervasive issue. Last time, we focused heavily on the negative aspects of this kind of thinking, but today, I aim to empower you by presenting effective strategies to help shift your mindset towards more positive or neutral patterns.

Understanding that negative thoughts are a natural part of life is crucial. Every person encounters thoughts that can lead to anxiety, but it's how we respond to these thoughts that truly matters. I emphasize the importance of being aware of your thought patterns and recognizing that you have the power to guide your responses. By intentionally steering your mindset away from negativity, you can experience a significant transformation in your overall outlook on life.

One of the key strategies I introduce is cultivating an attitude of acceptance towards negative thoughts. Instead of battling with yourself or feeling guilt over these intrusive ideas, recognize that they are simply part of the human experience. This acceptance allows you to create a space in which you can evaluate your thoughts more clearly without the weight of judgment stacking against you. Building on this, I suggest maintaining a focus on the present moment, rather than getting lost in a cycle of ruminating about what could go wrong in the future.

Moving into practical applications, I share specific techniques that can foster a shift from negativity to neutrality or positivity. For instance, I encourage listeners to keep their negative musings to themselves initially, permitting time for reflection before expressing them to others. This practice can help prevent the amplification of negativity, as sharing distressing thoughts in the moment often leads to greater anxiety and uncertainty.

0:30.3

and I am so happy to be with you again today as together we can consider the many ways to bring

0:38.1

your mind and body back to its natural peace and calm. In today's episode this is part two of how

0:46.4

negative thinking fuels anxiety and what you can do about it. Now this episode is more about what you can do about it. I know in

0:56.4

1061 I talked quite a bit, it was kind of negative, right? I was talking about all of the

1:02.0

downside of this issue and it is a big deal.

1:06.9

It is a big deal because it is something you can do something about and that's what we want to do is work on what we can with what we have

1:16.0

inside our circle of influence. We want to remember that. We do have the power to

1:22.4

steer our thoughts and how we are responding.

1:26.7

Well, let me get into it here with what I have laid out for you.

1:30.5

I could ramble, right?

1:31.7

Don't let me ramble so you know what we want to do is

1:36.7

learn to limit our negative thinking patterns by going to more positive or neutral kinds of thinking.

1:49.0

And I like neutral thinking because often positive thinking gets a bad rap.

1:55.0

It is not a bad thing to do and it is not a bad thing to practice.

1:58.6

Obviously you want to live in reality, but if you think your negative thinking is living in reality, you may want to spend

2:05.6

some time with that thought.

2:07.4

Ruminating about things that are not happening right now and may possibly happen. Of course we want to avoid

2:16.4

pitfalls in life and limit our possible negative outcomes, but when we ruminate and spend a lot of time there, that is not

2:26.0

reality either. Those are possibilities, but it's not happening. We can bring ourselves into the present moment and go to positive, looking at what is there and what is good about it, or what could be good about it if we put a little effort here or there or we can go to
