Today, we are talking Big Carp, creativity, art, working in the industry, working outside the industry, and even a little bit of

0:22.0

filmmaking, presumably with Jake the Heron Hughes.

0:25.1

Jake, thank you so much.

0:26.1

I know it's not been too far for you to get here, but thank you for coming in.

0:28.7

No problem.

My first question to you is, mate, and it's an angle I want to pursue on this pod, is can you

0:36.2

catch Big Carp if you're a family man very rarely but yeah you definitely can

0:42.1

um you know i've got a seven year old and a two year old and it was definitely a game changer with

0:48.9

the two year old or you know when she was born that totally changed everything everyone had

0:53.4

convinced me that no there's no difference between your first and your second.

0:56.0

But that first child, Elodie, it took a little while to sort of fit that in.

1:01.9

But as soon as we had a rhythm, I mean, I was fishing a big lake with, you know, almost 200 acres,

1:09.0

fatty carp in it and four nights in, I'd managed to catch one.

1:13.3

You know, it was probably luck that it all happened at that time, but I didn't change my

1:18.3

fishing for the kids. I probably just did a bit less of it. Yeah. Yeah. And what about with the second

1:23.7

one, that that can't, I mean, no, it's still going. Oh, is it? It's still going. Yeah, it's just... I mean, I feel like I'm coming out of that hard bit now. Yeah. So it's finding the rhythm. And you're trying to find the rhythm of a massive life change. And as you know, there's not... Having kids, there's not much more of a life change than having a kid, is there? No, people tell you that, don't they?

1:45.0

But it sounds a bit hackneyed and cliched, but it is true. It is without doubt if you're, it's the biggest change you probably go through, isn't it? Yeah, it's, you're forced to grow up overnight, you know, and it took me a little while. I was young when, you know, I'm 30 now.

I was, I was, we got a,

2:01.6

um, a child who's approaching seven. Um, and there was a lot of growing up to do there to the point where I think I did three, three nighters over three months. So I just did one session a month, but there were three nights and my missus really did not like me being there. And I remember thinking, why don't she want me there? I've always been fishing. And really it's, yeah, but your missus needs you. And I didn't understand that at the time. But, you know, through that sort of them two years or whatever, I learned that lesson. And I'm glad that I know that lesson now for our second child. But the difference is with the second one is it's a different challenge. You've got, you know, it's hard to deal with one who wants your attention, the other who needs your attention because she's what they both do, but she's a baby. But also you're going to go away a night a week. And also me and my missis work a posing shift, so it is very much one-man band oh really yeah yeah yeah wow so uh the
