Summary

Dave wanted me to jump onto the mic today and talk about the lessons I learned and what it was like going from "Training MY Ass Off" to "Training YOUR Ass Off" and going from a participant to an assistant for Dave's flagship seminar offering.

What's going on, guys? Welcome to another training talk with me, Sam Brown, under the Dave Tate's

0:05.9

Table Talk name. For those who aren't aware, these are shorter form podcasts where I kind of deep

0:13.5

dive into a specific topic or a couple different topics in a much shorter, more concise, more

0:19.5

digestible format. So today's podcast is a little bit different.

0:24.5

It is based on a conversation that Dave and I just had the other day at a meeting where the

0:32.1

topic of the train your ass offs came up.

0:34.9

We were kind of going over the people that we've had in there, the things that we've learned, the things that we've talked about. And for those who don't know, Dave has been running the Train Your Ass Offs for a few years now. And I myself was actually one of the first people to run through the Train Your Ass off experience. And at the the time it was split between two different

0:57.9

sessions the first one was only lower body and then a few months later there was an

1:02.8

upper body and then I went to that as well so that was shit 2018 2019 I forgot

1:10.5

exactly what year that was but it was one of the best experiences

1:16.0

that I've had in a gym for more reasons than you can really think about. So at the time,

1:24.5

a little bit of a background on me at the time, I was not really into my training, not really as competitive as I wanted to be.

1:33.2

I kind of sustained a little bit of a knee injury that, come to find out, was actually a torn meniscus that I eventually had surgery on.

1:40.4

But at the time, I'd fucked my knee up, and I thought it was going to be a long-term issue

1:45.3

and it ended up being something that over the course of time has helped me become a better

1:51.3

athlete so the first train your ass off opportunity came right around my 30th birthday

1:59.0

and oh shit so it was about two years ago right around my 30th birthday. And oh shit, so it was about two years ago, right around my 30th

2:03.0

birthday. And I thought physically and mentally that I wasn't ready for it. I was, I was scared. I was

2:10.7

nervous. I was not in a position where I felt like I could bring my best to the table. I didn't

2:15.7

feel qualified. I didn't feel like I was

2:18.3

supposed to be there. But I eventually just kind of sucked that all up, paid the money,

2:24.7

and showed up. I did not tell Dave about my knee because I thought that would be seen as a weakness.
