Summary

Today joining Brian and myself in the studio we are delighted to have Professor Dan Chan, our Head of Department here at the RVC. We could talk to him about so many things, though he has recently been involved in the Consensus on the Rational Use of Antithrombotics in Veterinary Critical Care (CURATIVE) and we thought that we’d have a chat with him about that. Enjoy.

The whole Consensus is available in a Special Issue in the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care open access here;

0:47.3

No, it's my pleasure. I'd love to talk about some of these things, including anticoagulants and what we've been working on.

So you're part of the, I came up with the curative sort of guidelines that was recently published in JVEC this year.

1:03.1

Could you maybe explain what that is and how he came about?

1:06.9

Yeah, of course.

1:07.9

So obviously we wanted to look at, are we following best evidence in our

1:15.6

recommendations to use anticoagulans? So we came up with the idea of developing a consensus

1:21.1

guidelines. So curative is actually the acronym for consensus on the rational use of antithrombotics in veterinary critical care.

1:30.3

So what the aim of the initiative was to get a collection of experts, so people that were working on the field,

1:39.3

to sit down and agree definitions and parameters that guide the use of anticoagulans. So we decided that we needed to

1:52.0

take this idea and separate different components. So we created five different domains with this initiative. And one of the
