Welcome. My name is Tim. I'm the host slash creator and facilitator of the new evangelicals.

We actually do a lot more than just podcasting.

We're actually a nonprofit organization that focuses on holding space for folks

marginalized by the evangelical church, advocating for

accountability inside of evangelical spaces, and we help people explore Christianity

outside the basement of evangelical fundamentalism.

So we do a lot of things and the podcast is just one part of that, but I'm so happy you're here,

especially if this is your first time, which makes me sound like a pastor, oh my gosh, if this is your first time, which makes me sound like a pastor.

Corbin. Now Billy is a documentary filmmaker and he most recently did the

documentary God forbid which talks about the Jerry Falwell and

Becky Falwell sex scandal and tells the story of the Falwell's quest for power and using

evangelicalism to get that. It also ties in

amazing threads to Christian nationalism and so I brought Billy on to talk to him

about it. I mean I had to know to he grew up in evangelical spaces why did he make the documentary is he aware of the impact this is having for folks like me who have had people tell me that I'm gossiping by sharing articles about Jerry Falwell living a life of

sexual promiscuity according to his own beliefs I asked him all that and more and

what follows is my episode with him so I really hope that you
