We all knew it was going to happen eventually. I'm joined by

Adam McQueen in his job and special guest Tim Manogue, our rotten borough specialist.

We'll come back to the big political news of the week which is the resignation of

Hummer's Yuse of the Scottish First Minister after 13 months in the job.

In his resignation speech he said if only every person could be First

Minister for just one day and it could still happen.

But first we are going to talk about the local elections, but Tim has joined us because there is so much more to say about this and in fact we do say it in the magazine quite regularly, one of the very few places that does. So I'm going to start with you, Tim.

How big a deal are this week's elections?

People are predicting that the Tories are going to take

a pretty severe hit.

These seats were last up for grabs in 2021,

which from this distance, it may be hard to believe.

They did reasonably well in.

People thought that COVID was going away and Boris Johnson was rather popular because he just rolled out this vaccine which people were pleased about.

So the Tories didn't do so badly then in these seats,

but in other places, for instance last year,

they did very badly indeed. and there's no reason to suppose that they're

going to do any better at all this year.
