| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. I really think one thing is true that I've found |
| 0:18.6 | after working with clients now for over 30 years and living for over 50 is that we really want to be happy. |
| 0:26.0 | That is our goal. |
| 0:27.8 | But unfortunately we go about it the wrong way and that's why we don't find it. But today I want to talk a really solid way to approach |
| 0:36.1 | happiness and it goes back to Egypt. Years ago when I was in graduate school I had the opportunity |
| 0:42.4 | to go to Egypt in the Middle East for three months. |
| 0:45.0 | And while I was there, I was able to climb up all the way to the top to one of the pyramids |
| 0:51.0 | and it was truly spectacular. You could see all of Cairo and the other pyramids and it just really took my breath away. I truly loved it. |
| 1:01.0 | And I don't know if you know this, but those pyramids have been there a long time, |
| 1:06.4 | perhaps even older than 4,000 years. That's a long time to be around and still standing. So how do they do it? How do those pyramids last so long? |
| 1:17.0 | Well the key is geometry and this goes back to Euclid and simply put if you have a square base and four sides and they go up to a point, that's a very solid structure. |
| 1:28.0 | Very solid. Thus, it lasts for over 4,000 years, truly spectacular. Well you know, happiness is much like a |
| 1:37.2 | pyramid. Let me explain. It goes back to what I talked about earlier in this podcast is that we really do all seek happiness. |
| 1:46.6 | But unfortunately, even though that's what we want, we don't go about getting it in very |
| 1:50.7 | wise ways. What we do is we put other things first instead of our |
| 1:55.0 | happiness and so we don't do well. It's like creating an upside down pyramid. |
| 2:00.1 | So in order to find happiness, we do have to prioritize. |
| 2:04.0 | Listening to this podcast is one of the priorities that we can do to find happiness. |
| 2:08.0 | And that takes time and that takes effort. |
| 2:11.0 | And this should be the bottom base of our foundation that we are |
| 2:14.7 | seeking to have peaceful beautiful lies towards others and towards ourselves. |
| 2:19.9 | That takes work, that takes effort. |
