I was a sophomore in college,

and I was a completely defeated Christian.

Six o'clock in the morning, I'm sitting at my desk,

tears in my eyes, and saying, God, I can't do this.

I just can't do it.

I had been presented with a Bible that was story after story of great heroes.

I had listened in chapel, a Christian college, to these great missionary statesmen,

these heroes of the faith.

And I thought, if this is what it means to be a Christian,

I cannot be a Christian.

I cannot measure up to this.

I was totally defeated.
