Summary
Matt Macduff is a professional mountain bike rider and action sports athlete from BC, Canada. You may remember Matt first appeared on the podcast back in November 2018 for episode #061.
Since Matt's first appearance we have stayed good friends, Matt and I often share book recommendations, articles and podcasts with each other and a few months ago I sent Matt a book title that I thought he'd enjoy. The book was called 'Breathe' by James Nestor, Matt downloaded the audio book while I bought myself the hardback version and we thought it would be a good idea to catch up for a chat when we'd both read the book.
The concept for this podcast came about by pure chance. Initially, I was going to go on Matt's podcast (The Matt Macduff Show) and talk about my podcast journey with the goal of then discussing our experiences and takeaways from this book. However, as the conversation unfolded and ideas formed we decided to share the audio file and post it on both platforms. The aim is to get our listeners involved with future books and to potentially continue this format as a monthly show.
This is a very varied and open episode which took us two days to record. We would both love to hear your feedback and wether you would like to hear more of this type of podcast. Please reach out and let us know...
The book featured in this episode is 'Breathe' by James Nestor. You can find it on Audible or Amazon HERE
The next book featured is 'Mind Hacking' by Sir John Hargrave.
You can find it on Audible or Amazon HERE

| 0:00.0 | all right what is going on out there podcast family i trust everybody is safe happy and well |
| 0:07.6 | and thank you once again for stopping by and checking out another episode of the hookit podcast |
| 0:13.3 | today i am joined by the legend and my buddy matt mcduff kind of and the reason I say kind of is because this audio file was originally |
| 0:25.4 | just going to go on Matt's platform, the Matt McDuff show, which if you don't subscribe, |
| 0:31.0 | head over and do it right now. Do yourself a favor. But as this conversation unfolded and |
| 0:35.6 | ideas started to flow, we decided that we both share this audio file and then also try and get listeners involved too. |
| 0:43.6 | So a little bit of the backstory with this. Matt first came on my podcast back in November 2018. |
| 0:50.2 | And since then, like many of the guests, Matt and I have stayed in touch. We've actually become |
| 0:54.6 | quite good friends because we share a lot of the same interests, especially when it comes to health, |
| 1:00.2 | wellness, mental health, etc. So we often send each other book recommendations and podcast recommendations, |
| 1:07.6 | but a month or so ago, I sent Matt a book to read. He read it and straight |
| 1:13.1 | away wanted to sit down and talk about the book. So we decided that why not make it into a podcast? |
| 1:19.7 | Like I said, this was originally just going to go on Matt's platform. We've decided to share |
| 1:23.4 | the audio file. So a lot of what's in this podcast is a little bit about me too. Not the movement, |
| 1:31.5 | me. So I don't want anyone to think that this is narcissistic or anything like that. Like |
| 1:37.3 | said, initially we thought this was just going to go on Matt's platform. But there's a lot of |
| 1:41.9 | stuff in here that I've personally never really spoken |
| 1:44.5 | about, especially when it's about my own mental health and the growth of the podcast and business |
| 1:50.7 | and stuff like that. And I just wanted to throw that in there because I don't want anyone to |
| 1:56.3 | think that this is a sort of one-sided conversation, especially for the first portion of it. |
| 2:01.9 | And again, there's a lot of stuff in here I've never really spoken about. I want it to be very |
| 2:06.1 | honest, open and transparent. It left me in a bit of a head haze afterwards because some of this |
