| 0:00.0 | Hey guys, so I'm back with a brand new episode of the SBO podcast and this week we're on episode |
| 0:05.9 | 101 with the phenomenal Gail Ann Dorsey. And if you can hear any birds cheaper in the |
| 0:12.2 | background, it's because I'm stood in my garden. I'm not in an Avery or anything weird like that. |
| 0:17.9 | Anyway, today's episode is absolutely killer. Gail has played with the likes |
| 0:22.4 | of obviously David Bowie, but she's also played with Gwen Stefani, Boy George, Jonathan Brooke, |
| 0:27.9 | tears for fears in excess, and she's now on tour with Lenny Kravitz as well. And we're going |
| 0:33.6 | to be talking about her career, how she got into the base, how she became one of the busiest session players in the world, and how she ended up, you know, playing with David Bowie and the rehearsal procedures that they used to go through, and how she rehearses with Lundy Kravitz and everything in between. |
| 0:51.3 | And the cool thing is, guys, if you are an SBL Academy member, if you are a member of the membership over on ScottspaceLessons.com, we have recorded an amazing video as well over in New York with Gail, so make sure you check that out. If you're not already a member yet, go grab your 14-day free trial. You can do that, obviously, at scotspace lessons.com. |
| 1:13.0 | And from now on in, I am actually going to be back as the host of the SPO podcast. |
| 1:17.4 | We've got some killing guests coming, and we've done some really amazing videos as well. |
| 1:23.3 | It's going to be a ton of fun. |
| 1:24.9 | So without further ado, let's get into this week's podcast with the amazing Gail and Dorsey. |
| 1:31.3 | Guys, we are here with the legendary. |
| 1:34.0 | You are legendary Gail and Dorsey here in New York. |
| 1:37.4 | She's being cool enough to come along and bring your awesome bass as well, |
| 1:41.6 | which I'll be asking you all about. |
| 1:43.0 | It's steeped in history. I've seen you play a ton of times as I've been internet stalking you, because that's what I do. But obviously you played with a slew of artists. Is that even a word, slew? Yes, I believe so. I'm just checking, right? So a slew of artists, but how did you actually get into this racket in the first place? Well, I'm one of those people that played something else and picked up the base so that I could work. |
| 2:07.7 | I've heard that story many times. Now, when I was a teenager in the 70s and I was playing, I was a guitar player. |
| 2:13.5 | I love guitar. Guitar is my favorite instrument. Do you still play? Oh yeah, absolutely, very much so. |
| 2:18.3 | And I was trying to get work. I was 14 and I was trying to get work in the summer |
| 2:25.3 | that wasn't McDonald's or flipping burgers or whatever. |
| 2:28.3 | And I went to the local music store. |
