In this presentation we're going to review the criteria for the various personality disorders and identify some common errors in diagnosis.

Let's just start out with what is a personality disorder in general. When we talk about personality disorders, they seem to have a lot of symptoms that overlap with a lot

of other disorders and the answer is yes they do so what is a personality

disorder is an an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that

deviates markedly from cultural expectations in two or more areas.

So there are a lot of things here that we need to look at.

So this isn't just something that happens after a trauma.

This isn't something that just happens during a certain period of time.

Inner experience, how the person is feeling about themselves in the world,

and behavior that deviates markedly from cultural expectations. And we need to examine what that might be,

what that might look like for each individual and consider not only you know race and ethnicity and gender and gender identity but also

other cultures such as age and the time that people grew up in.

But it needs to differ markedly from cultural expectations in two or more areas.

Cognition, affectivity, so the range of affect, whether the person is flat or emotionally

disregulated, the intensity, libbelity and appropriateness of the
