Summary

Joining Brian and myself in the studio we are delighted to have Professor Holger Volk, guru of neurology and neurosurgery, though internationally renowned for his (and his teams) work on epilepsy.   Holger spoke to Shailen in the first RVC clinical podcast and being sentimental we thought we’d ask him back for our hundredth podcast. A lot has happened in the last 6 years and we thought that we’d catch up with what has changed. We hope that you enjoy.

Professor Holger Volk. Thank you, Professor, for joining us on what marks out the 100th podcast of this

0:34.3

0:39.4

very kind and far too exterated introduction. So, so Hulge, can I, so you gave a podcast when

0:49.2

Shaden was in the chair and it's over over five years ago now about seizures.

0:55.1

So maybe I could ask rather than reiterate what's what you did then.

0:59.4

There's more what is what has changed in the last five years of our understanding of

1:04.1

seizures?

1:05.1

Yeah.

1:06.1

Thank you for the question.

1:07.1

I mean there has been obviously a lot has. Or saying it the other way around, we have learned a lot more about epilepsy management in general

1:19.2

and about epilepsy being a brain disease.

1:23.0

If I now reflect on the last five years, I think from our research group's point, the main

1:29.3

change has been that we see epilepsy now not only as a simple seizure disorder, so epilepsy beyond seizures.

1:37.3

Epilepsy is far more than that.

1:41.3

And it actually came about when we launched our epilepsy app.

1:45.0

We had a human, I mean a person who had epilepsy or still has epilepsy, and she told us about
