Hello and welcome to episode one hundred of what most people think. One hundred. One hundred. He raises his hat. He raises his back to the Barmy army over there. What a wonderful century there has been there.

We've just started off quite slow as the run rate. Then COVID happened and the podcast went to one a week and what a wonderful decision that was. I've done my Richie Beno for a long time. I hope that that still sounds alright. Thank you so much to everybody that's downloaded the podcast and got it up to this point.

We're on well over a million downloads at this point which doesn't put it up there with you know the top ones you see at the top of the charts all the time but it's not bad. It's not bad at all and for people who like radical political and social commentary and comedy from someone pretty much bangs mac in the middle let's be honest.

I hope that you have enjoyed the journey till this point and I knew we had to have a special guest for today and boy if we go on we've got our Murray the pub landlord out Murray the not pub landlord out Murray the two men for the price of one no I mean he's very much not in character for this podcast although it would be great to get him on.

I'm listening right I would really love to do another one with the character that would be that would be meta as the more when key people in comedy might say but we had a chat and we spoke and I'm going to keep everything as brief as I can today because I don't I try to bring in around an hour maybe no more than an hour and 10 but we spoke about so much interesting stuff.

I want to lose as little of it as possible we talk about the culture of comedy where it's where it's come from you know where where it's going and the fact that

that we came into comedy at the end of the self-righteous comedy at the age is during the alternative period so maybe things are a bit more cyclical than we think but I think you're going to love this chat.

Just before we get into the normal features and just remember let's just remember now as cases of fallen for six seven days in a row and let's just hold these people to account that said that they were going to be 200,000 cases remember that.

Old Neil Ferguson that guy old Shagger Ferguson. He's been at it again obviously the bad predictions rather than the shaggy I don't know about the shaggy now it's unlocked maybe he's thrown it all round London but they never seem to face the consequences for the predictions that are way off right and you understand why they would might earn a little bit on the side of caution but there's got to be some sort of accountability they they just remind me of my mum constantly predicting the worst possible physical outcome to anything.

You'll you'll have your eye out boy you'll have your eye out you'll fall and you crack your head open because for mums in the eighties cracking your head open was very commonly done what they meant was you'll cut your head slightly and it will bleed disproportionately but have your eye and crack your head open we're sort of emotive manipulations that basically meant that they couldn't handle seeing you engage your risk and that is what Neil Ferguson is he's a mum from the eighties he just keeps trying shit at a board hoping that some of shit at a fan. He actually throws the shit at the fan and all of the shit.

The fan and all the shit mostly flies away but he he sort of takes note of the shit that stuck to the fan and just another thing about a politics I do try to stick up for the BBC as I say I am not a defund the BBC guy on balance I have a fan I think it's a can be a voice from moderation but there was a story over in the last week where

Sadja Javid had said that we shouldn't cower from covid in a tweet now most people in Britain I think you're thinking yeah okay what's what's interesting about this well because Twitter gets all her tea because of words and Sadja used to sort of match a word like cower people got all upset and of course you know we're throwing their experience of covid and love ones that they'd lost I mean I don't know why people always have to make it so directly personal.

I'm pretty sure that he didn't mean that anybody that got seriously or died from covid was somehow carrying from it so any apologizes all right fine it's a usual Twitter piece of bollocks but what astonished me was that it was the lead story on BBC news for half a day the lead story that the the health secretary said a herty word said a herty word in a tweet some people got upset and that is the lead story on one of the most trusted and access new sources in the world.

And you'll see now you'll see now with with what's happening with covid is that the liberal left increasingly find themselves in a bit of a bind really because they're back to that point where they more or less agree with what a lot of the government are doing they like in the authoritarian noises that Boris is making about covid passports they just sort of egging him on in their own hearts but meanwhile they they sort of like to continue feeling anti establishment don't they because that's how they get a bit of an establishment means they sit on their their apple.

Defies jumping get delivery from Amazon and basically benefits from benefit from the fruits of capitalism generally but they like to feel and the establishment so they don't focus on words so you're going to see a lot more of this is the government sort of increasingly interfere sensor legislate tax to all this stuff that they really like.

And and sort of prove them not to be liberal they'll still find stuff to be upset about and if all else fails they'll mention the fact that Boris has got six kids so there you go.
