Summary
Harrowing true story of the Broberg family. A Friend Of The Family
Jan Broberg was kidnapped by her neighbour, Robert Berchtold, under the watch of her parents.
Robert Berchtold was a sociopath, perhaps even a psychopath. He lived in a fantasy world and he manipulated EVERYBODY. His entire life revolved around planning and executing this kidnapping and then incredibly, after they were caught and brought home, he abducted Jan a second time.
One in four girls and one in six boys have been sexually assaulted by someone who is familiar to them. Only three percent are attacked by what you would call a stranger. For ninety-seven percent of victims, it’s someone that is acquainted with the child or with the family. These are terrifying statistics and it is the reason Jan continues to share her story to try and bring awareness to how deeply manipulative and easily missed this abuse can be.
Please support Jan in her quest to educate on this important topic by purchasing her book, The Jan Broberg Story https://amzn.to/3TvY15i Listen to her podcast, The Jan Broberg Show www.thejanbrobergshow.com and if it resonates, you can find her community for child abuse survivors, called Thrivivors here www.janbrobergfoundation.org
Also just released, is a new Peacock limited series called A Friend of the Family starring Anna Paquin, Colin Hanks and Jake Lacey which tells Jan's entire story over 9 episodes. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=384474613832473&ref=sharing
