Three minutes after ten is a time. A very good morning indeed to you. I'm always conscious of

boring you when I talk about some of the moral

wrestles that I have before coming on air. I mean, you know, I don't know what you do for a living,

but I'm not sure I'd be that keen for you to spend 10 minutes explaining to me how hard your job can be sometimes

before you actually got down to doing it. But very briefly, if you'd indulge

me for one moment, when I came back to the studio after working in the shed, I was conscious of having

become quite downcast and sad about the number of people in our country that were dying.

I mean, it was grim. Since then, there's been a sort of calcification of consciousness. I think we've become almost inured or immune to it. And that

perhaps is why yesterday's milestone figure of 100,000 deaths and, of course, our continuing

position at the top of the international COVID death rate table. Just hit a little bit harder

than perhaps many of us were expecting. We on this program had already been asking the questions

for two or three days, if not longer, that many others have been prompted to ask as a result of

that milestone. Why is it so high?

Why are so many of us dying?

And I sort of realized this morning shortly before coming on air

that today is a day when I'm not going to strain every sine you

to keep things a little bit more upbeat.

I'm not going to leaven the bad news

with lighthearted revelations regarding Hong Kong Fui number one super guy because yesterday I was

shocked to discover I was too sad to be angry. I just can't get the number out my head.

All of the children, all of the grandchildren, all of the partners, the husbands, the wives, the brothers, the sisters.
