I'm going to start today with some misconceptions around cigarette-related litter.

I'm here to bust some myths, including to share with you some information that I've only just discovered for myself.

So you would think, wouldn't you, that cigarette butts, for example, are pretty harmless.

I mean, they've been around as long as I've been around and they've made a paper.

You'd think that ultimately they would break down their biodegradable and it turns out, guess what, they're not.

It takes 14 years, 14 years for a cigarette butt to break apart.

And whilst it's doing that, it's seeping toxins into the earth that harm nature, contaminate waterways and pollute where we live.

Terrible when you think about it, especially when you find out that cigarette butts make up to 66% of all litter.

66%. I know it's mind blowing, isn't it?

If you are a smoker, please, please, bin it or take your butts with you.
