When we left Nick in episode 8, Judge Katz had declared a two-week break to think about the value of the testimony from both Dominique's mother Lenny and Lillian Pierce, an ex-girlfriend of John Sweeney's, who testifies to significant abuse at his hands, literally, about coming back

into court from that two-week break Dunwell right. Judge Katz ruled that the prosecution

could not use the testimony of Lillian Pierce to show the jury that John Sweeney had committed

previous acts of violence against women. He said he would allow Ms. Pierce to take the jury that John Sweeney had committed previous acts of violence against women.

He said he would allow Miss Pierce to take the stand only in rebuttal

if Adelson put expert witnesses, meeting psychiatrists,

on the stand to testify that Sweeney was too mentally impaired by emotions

to have formed the intent to kill.

Once Judge Katz ruled that, Adelson threw out his psychiatric defense.
