Glad to be here. Your newest book, Co-written with Theresa Griffin Kennedy, contains lots

of stories of Portland during the 1920s. Before we talk about the murder itself, let's set

the backdrop. Tell us about Portland during the Prohibition years under Mayor George Baker,

and I'm assuming that things were not exactly on the level. Were they?

Well, yes and no. There's a couple of ideas that we kind of need to understand to really

get what was happening in Portland, Great Prohibition, and then that kind of helps us to understand

what happened in 1946 that's known as the Torso Murder Case. One of the most forgotten

Portland murders. It's not really forgotten though. People have always kind of kept this

idea of this Torso Murder open. It's just never been solved. That's what keeps people

interested is no one knows what happened. But in order to understand it, we need to go back
