Summary

Host Ian Hartitz is joined by Sharp Football Analysis fantasy expert Rich Hribar aka Lord Reebs for 10 questions related to the 2021 quarterback landscape. Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen have been the past three overall QB1s in fantasy land, and the guys see the same player chalking up another crown in 2021. There are more signal-callers with overall QB1 upside out there, and Rich believes Kyler Murray could be on the verge of a huge season if Kliff Kingsbury sharpens up just a bit. Conversation continues with breakdowns on the rising second-year quarterbacks as well as some of the less mobile veteran gunslingers around the QB1 borderline. Additional topics include: favorite rookie quarterback in re-draft, why Kirk Cousins is this year's premiere bridge option at the position, Carson Wentz vs. Sam Darnold (spoiler: no), Ryan Tannehill's standing and much more.

I'm your host, Ian Hartitz. And we have a very special guest there, people. I've been telling you for weeks. And I'm sorry. I didn't do it sooner. Chill out.

0:10.0

Tell me for weeks. I want to start getting some of the best fancy football minds from the industry back here on this podcast with so many finally getting back in their drafts.

0:27.0

I hope you've enjoyed the fancy files series, some of the professional athletes from neighborhood on this podcast. In the day, you want to know who to pick to win your league. And I want to start having these larger general position specific just more topical podcasts. Now that we're actually close to fancy draft. So I want to talk all things quarterbacks today. And again, very special guest.

0:45.0

I guess that we do so. He is the connoisseur of context, big football meteorologist, a sharp football analysis. That's why we have Konami fellow fast talker fellow. We don't actually have ourselves pictured in our Twitter avatar guy rich Revar. You all know already as at Lord Reaves on Twitter rich. Thanks so much for the time man. How's it going?

1:03.0

Yeah, and fellow Ohio fantasy football brethren. So we've got a lot of overlap. You kind of hit on something in the lead in that you know, I've been thinking about with training camps opening this week. You know, this is kind of the official kickoff of where the casual fans are starting. This is where it picks up in the general public comes back.

1:22.0

And that's just two week period, maybe three weeks where you know, the running back dead zone got got exploited. Everyone was in on it. Why do seeers moved all those draft boards. Let's see if this next month. Those wider seevers started to drop a little bit running back.

1:34.0

I could go back highly again. But yeah, this is the month where we pick up and everyone's coming in and getting on a football mindset.

1:41.0

People are already doing a bad job of not taking training camp news to seriously. We got people actually believing Tom Brady through three straight footballs into a jug machine and got shot back out today. The rumor was that Kelvin Benjamin got released for stealing food from the cafeteria. No people. That is not true.

1:59.0

It's better, but it is funny. And I'm just happy to timeline with football again, as you're saying, Rich. So as I said, the lead, we are going all things quarterbacks on this episode. No, obviously pay a little more attention to the top guys, but we'll try to touch on basically the top 20 top 25 guys one way or another and Rich starts at the top of 2018.

2:18.0

Patrick Mahomes 2019, QB one Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen took the crowd in 2020. Who you draft the expecting to be 2021's overall QB one. Well, I mean, I'm not drafting because I'm not going to draft the first quarterback in my draft in North.

2:32.0

So do you guys, I mean, it's a talking answer, but the player with the best odds, obviously is Patrick Mahomes. I mean, you look at what he's done so far, as started as career. He's been the QB one, the QB six and the QB two in fantasy points per game is three seasons as a starter.

2:47.0

He leads all quarterbacks in fantasy games of 20 plus points, 30 of those and games that three or more passing touchdowns, 21 of those since he became a starting quarterback. He just has the best kind of plurality. He's mobile to he's run more in the past, you know, a year and a half basically,

3:03.0

he's never since he came back from that weird kneecap injury. He's he's been really mobile. So you get kind of the best of both worlds with Mahomes. I will say though that this there is a definite by the dip situation with Lamar Jackson, especially if we talk about more casual leagues start to get underway here, you know, your homeligs, the guy that took Lamar Jackson first is probably not going to want him, you know, at all this year.

3:26.0

He might drop to QB four, QB five, maybe sometimes even lower because we've got such a good pocket of quarterbacks at the top, but we knew that regression was coming for Lamar Jackson last year. I mean, he was on a team that scored on 57% of their drives. He won the league MVP.

3:41.0

We knew that there were questions coming people, I think overcooked that regression into kind of his future outlook. And we've seen him kind of going the second half of the season. He I would buy the dip on him for sure. He is my QB two. If he wants to follow that QB four, QB five, range and your draft. I mean, I would go up.

3:57.0

And interesting enough, Josh Allen is now in that same position that Lamar Jackson was in last year. The bills, they scored on 55% of their drives last year. It was the highest rate in the NFL. They punted on just 26% of their drives in 2020. It was the lowest mark in the league since 1999.

4:16.0

Then you look at teams like the bills last year of the previous 20 teams that led the league and scoring rate per drive. Not one of them came back and scored a higher rate the following year. So there is going to be a little bit of recoil with the with the bills as well. The good news is that we have a pretty good example in fantasy of Josh Allen being a stable fantasy corporate while he was a bad passer.

4:36.0

So we do his drops not going to be precipitous, but I think that a lot of people that take him at QB one, QB two are not factoring in some of that recoil that we saw with Lamar Jackson fantasy likes to eat its own tail a lot. And you know, I think we'll see Josh Allen at six and a half percent touchdown rate.

4:52.0

So we're trying to come back down, you know, a little bit and we'll see some kind of, you know, teams kind of really slow the bills down. We saw towards the end of last year too. I mean, you look into playoffs, you know, spags obviously got him both times last year because we're Josh Allen still did struggle even as breakout was against pressure.

5:08.0

I mean, he had 8.6 yards for past attempt to and kept clean 6.6 yards for attempt under pressure. That was that 2 point yards per difference under pressure versus kept clean was a 25th largest differential in the league. So he still does have a little bit of hiccups, but like I said, with with him just being a bulldozer being arguably the most the strongest quarterback in the league now that we can count on for a full season because we can't count on for Cam Newton.

5:32.0

You so they're going to have a safe floor Josh Allen, but I do think that just rolling over last year stats to Josh Allen will probably be feeling a lot like people felt with more Jackson at the last season.

5:42.0

Starting up the top patch of my homes, he's average is the most fancy points for game ever. Her many quarterback ever. He's the one he's our one. You're one my one whoever's listening to it probably your one. We get that. I will say them and you me Evan Silva and Johnny Dagle on the last ever.
