President Joe Biden called for a new Speaker of the House to be chosen quickly so Congress can get back to work.

Kevin McCarthy was ousted by his fellow Republicans from the top job Tuesday.

McCarthy has said he will not run again and there's no clear alternative.

GOP Congressman Patrick McHenry, atop McCarthy ally, has been named interim speaker.

And without a replacement, the House can't pass bills.

The two candidates running so far are Congressman Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise.

Earlier today Jordan downplayed concerns that he may be too conservative for some of the

more moderate Republicans. I think we're a conservative center right party.

my politics are entirely consistent with where conservatives and Republicans are

across the country Jordan also says he opposes more aid for Ukraine an argument

that former Ukrainian minister Timothyimi Lovenoff says is

quote, painful to hear. The US is our strongest alight, which over the course of the

war has contributed the largest amount of aid in military and also economic

support and this is what makes Ukraine resilient. Of course the EU and other

allies have given quite a bit a lot but the US is a clear leader here

and so delays create uncertainty.
