Welcome in to another episode of the PFF College Football Show, Max Chadwick, alongside Dalton Wasserman here, breaking down the 10 true freshmen that you need to know

0:25.1

heading into the 20, 25 college football season.

0:29.2

We have data on every single player in college football and the NFL.

0:33.4

We don't have any data on these true freshmen.

0:35.3

Because obviously we don't do any high school stuff.

0:55.7

So we're kind of breaking down the film from what we saw from these guys, breaking down. There are games too. And we saw it last year, man. True freshmen are making impacts in college football more than ever before. In fact, you look at it right now. Three players heading into 2025 were true freshman last year. They are my number one player at their position heading into next year. Jeremiah Smith, Colin Simmons, Leonard Moore. You have superstars

0:59.8

also like Ryan Williams and Coy Parrich and Dylan Stewart, obviously, too. A lot of true

1:06.7

freshmen were stars in college football last year. It was really the year of the true freshman.

1:12.3

So that's what we're going to break down today. The 10 or actually more than 10 true freshman,

1:16.6

you got to know heading into next year too. Yeah, it feels like now with the monetary investment of

1:20.3

NIL and then the transfer portal and the urgency, at least until there's more rules put in place

1:25.1

that these kids can transfer any time they want to. It feels like there's an even greater urgency for these true freshmen, the impact true freshmen, to play right away. Because if you don't play them and it's like the old days where you sit them for two or three years and red shirts and kind of develop them behind the scenes, they could just leave and go somewhere where they're going to play and leave for a better monetary offer in a lot of cases. So look, I mean, we even see that early on with some of these freshmen when you talk about they might play, get in a spring practice with one team, and then they're going another. We're seeing that every year or two. So the urgency now on these guys playing early and themselves finding playing time at their college program, you're going to see more and more of this as time goes on until there's until there's more rules about the transfer portal put into place and maybe more restrictions. You're going to see more freshmen playing early in their careers. Absolutely. Just mentioned it right there that usually freshmen came into college football, red shirt of their first year, then maybe make an impact their second year, and then really the and fourth years where they really become stars in college football. Now, you're seeing guys come in

2:20.1

right off high school, even Ryan Williams' case out of 17 years old coming in and playing at a high

2:25.4

level too. So it's becoming no longer very rare for a freshman to come in and dominate. True

2:30.9
