Saturday February 17th. Ukraine's military chief announced the withdrawal of

troops from Avdivka. Russia has been on the offensive in the town since October, intensifying its

attack, and it's become one of the most fiercely contested battles on the Eastern

Front. This marks the biggest gain for Russia since it captured Bachmoot last year and is undoubtedly a blow to Ukraine.

Russia did suffer significant losses in the town too, but appears to have calculated it was worth it.

Ukrainian president Valotimir Zelinsky told CNN's Christianon Ammanpur that the

decision to withdraw troops was logical. It's important for us to save the lives of our people. That's our main objective. We're saving our lives, our soldiers because that's our defense.

Today's Elensky also reiterated his accusation that Russian President Vladimir Putin was

responsible for the death of Russian opposition leader Alexi Navalny.

Navalny's spokesperson officially confirmed his death today, calling it a murder, and saying that his body won't be released to his family until the investigation into his death is complete.

The exact circumstances surrounding Navalny's death are unknown, but the Russian prison service

said he, quote, felt unwell after a walk and, quote, almost immediately lost consciousness.
