This is the Dodd and Tyler Radio Empire. So I saw this story yesterday and then I saw something on CBS Sunday morning about phobias, but the one first one I saw yesterday was 30% of adults are afraid of the dark. Halloween. Oh, yeah, yeah. This show forgets about Halloween because we don't celebrate it anymore. But it's coming up this weekend.

0:38.6

But 30% of adults are afraid of the dark.

0:40.4

I don't know what they do with those people.

0:41.7

But this lady was on CBS Sunday morning and she's a phobia expert.

0:46.3

And she worked for, she's an assistant professor at Harvard.

0:51.1

And this person was afraid of flying.

0:57.8

And apparently the way to get rid of phobia is you got to do them yeah so she flew somewhere to uh the gosh of india i guess she flies around the world to help people

1:02.1

out and she must be highly paid or something like that so some guys are afraid of flying in india

1:06.2

they went over they took they took 25 flights in five days wow just kept getting on a plane kept

1:13.7

getting on a plane 25 flights in five days and it cured them and then she's got an elevator

1:20.5

in her office that's pretty small so for claustrophobia and she puts these people in the elevator.

2:00.9

And I guess her building in her office in Harvard is probably three floors. And they stay in it and go up and down the elevator. Yeah. And she stands in there with them, you know, just to talk to them. And they just go up and down the elevator. So I saw this piece. And a cure, you saw it too. And the thing that killed me was the fact that she will admit that she still has an irrational fear of cockroaches. Cockroach is right. Now, here's to deal with that. That's fine because... Does she have a dentist? That doesn't affect her daily life. Some guy comes in and drills your mouth all day. There was a dentist person on there. Was there?

2:19.4

There was a chick that's so afraid of dentistry. But here's a deal with that lady. She goes, oh, her dental work done being put to sleep anyway. She just can't even walk in the office not freaking out. Does she also have like a snake pit or a pit full of reptiles? See, that's what I mean. A lot of people are afraid of that. The claustrophobia one and the flying, especially the flying one,

2:21.2

are stuff you really want, and the height one.

2:34.2

I mean. A lot of people are afraid of that. The claustrophobia one and the flying one, especially the flying one, or stuff you really want, and the height one. I mean, you want to overcome those. Who cares if you overcome your fear of cockroaches? The movie, am I thinking of? Oh, it was a true grin. Or whoever plays the young lady was really afraid of snakes and then fell into a snake pit.

2:54.0

Oh, that's right. It's like me and rats, but I don't want to get over my fear of rats. I don't, I just don't, I'm not going to be around rats. Well, if you want to get rid of it. There's some things you can be afraid of and just not have it in your life. Right. That's right. Like cockroaches. Yeah, but it sounds like what she practices is like total immersion. If this is your fear. And stuff you really want to conquer. Which is flying for sure for a lot of people. Here's what you got to do. That's why I think we should throw, for us in a pit full of insects or, you know, because he's inclined. He's the kind of guy that just wants to kill them all. And people shouldn't. Only if they're in the house. Yeah. Well, I would be stepping on spiders in a pit too. I'm not going to let them live. I want to try to live. Yeah, she called this exposure therapy. Right, right. I get it. But the thing that killed me was she said, the lady interviewinger said, what happens if you see a cockroach?
