0:41.4	speakerships since they kicked out their house speaker Kevin McCarthy and have failed
0:45.7	to select a new speaker. If you tune out for just a few hours, a front runner will rise
0:53.0	like a phoenix over the horizon and just as quickly disappear. And you are none the
0:59.2	wiser. And the latest person to whom this happened is Tom Emmer. If you looked at an
1:05.0	article from yesterday morning, you learned about Tom Emmer facing a tough road to the
1:11.6	speaker's gavel on the floor. Republicans nominating him, although others immediately
1:18.0	saying, I don't know that this guy actually has a path to victory. By yesterday afternoon,
1:24.8	the headline on the hill was Emmer bid collapses, extending extraordinary Republican speaker
1:32.6	losing streak, indicating that it's the the nomination survived four hours. The Republican
1:40.0	conference selecting Tom Emmer. And then but within four hours, Emmer withdrew his name
1:47.4	and it's just all looking completely and totally disastrous. Obviously the failed former
1:52.6	president, Donald Trump doing everything he can to position himself as someone who is
1:58.1	strong and decisive and influential in this entire speaker debate. It's increasingly
2:03.0	hard to believe that that's the case. And of course, his initial endorsement of Jim
2:06.6	Jordan went down in flames just disastrously actually losing support rather than coalescing
2:13.2	it with each subsequent vote until eventually Jim Jordan was told by Republican colleagues.
