area of California and joins us now Jeff how are you sir I'm very well nice to be with you thanks so why don't you give us a quick outline of who the plate to Sarn what they're alleging

1:11.0

well yesterday we filed suit on behalf of two very courageous survivors Jim Keenan and Kathy Stonebreaker and against the Holy See also known as the Pope or the Vatican and they're both individuals who are violated multiple times by serial offenders and in both instances

1:40.0

those offenders became known to the Vatican and in both instances one of them being in our special by the way the Vatican suppressed the evidence and continued the offenders in ministry and so we had a direct tie to them as a result I felt and feel that they're both qualified to stand with us using their names when they didn't have to

2:09.0

to really target the Vatican and the dangerous practices they're employing as we speak what what level of abuse are we talking about here

2:20.0

well in both instances is is multiple instances of penetration over many years as you so the the the the significance is of their their abuses and it's severe

2:37.0

but but more importantly it's it's it's a part of a pattern that it and a practice that is employed by the Catholic officials across California across the country that ultimately is reflected in a requirement and a practice that begins in Rome and is employed in both of their cases

3:01.0

so I've handled thousands of survivors and worked with and continue to work with hundreds of survivors who have experienced serious in grief with farm likeness but the real problem that we're really trying to address through this action is is at the top it's up down organization and until the Vatican is it feels the heat and the pressure we're not going to see any change

3:29.0

and and as a result there's a serious pair of them we're trying to address how solid is your evidence that knowledge of and or cover ups of these acts go all the way to the top

3:41.0

we've got documented evidence that in both instances show that the Vatican suppressed and hid in continues to hide the evidence of their involvement in the case of keysley who was a serious a serious offender in the Oakland area

3:58.0

the actually documents show that he thought late to the nation removal from the police to by the Vatican and the Vatican sent a letter back say and no you're too young to remove you from the police to even though we know you abuse these kids

4:16.0

so we're going to keep you they quietly kept them and he continues to abuse and they didn't remove them until later it was too late for many because they chose to do that

4:30.0

and in the case of the other of individual who the Vatican directly suppressed we have a large volume of documents and that involves an art spish of nines that who was the superior or the art spish of in St. Paul and Minneapolis

4:51.0

and while here in Minnesota and the art spish of it was well known to the officials here that he was engaged in sexual misconduct with the young seminarians much like Cardinal McCarrick

5:08.0

and then he also was engaged in a relationship with the serial offender here and then when that serial offender became known to him and his lieutenants he suppressed that and didn't report it

5:22.0

and then an investigation is sued and they brought that investigation about his suspicious sexual conduct and his cover up of criminal conduct directly to the Pulp's representative Cardinal Legano in Washington DC and met with him

5:43.0

and at that time the Pulp and Cardinal Legano ordered the investigation to be halted and suppressed the investigation and as a result our spish of nines that continued in ministry even though he resigned as an art spish of he went on to continue to this day to remain and keep his status

6:10.0

and so in both cases we have a really powerful documentary trail of Vatican concealment, Vatican cover up, Vatican suppression of evidence and Vatican decisions made by Pulp John Paul II, Pulp Benedict, former Cardinal Ressager and now Pulp Francis

6:37.0

so whether it's Harvey Weinstein or a congressman in Washington DC or Catholic churches around the world would often happens as somebody comes forward with a check and the case is over and somebody gets and I'm not making any moral judgment on that because I'm not sure what I would do or recommend but if the Vatican says hey here's a million dollars to teach you or is it is the whole thing over?
