The Federal Aviation Administration has published new rules that pave the way for electric-powered aircraft to take to the skies.

The FAA says these powered-lift vehicles will be the first completely new category of aircraft

since helicopters were introduced about 80 years ago

and can be used for everything from transportation to cargo delivery to rescues.
