Good morning and welcome the kid news. I'm Tori. Today is Monday, October 24th, 2022, and we begin with an eight-year-old from Utah attempting a record-setting climb in California.

Whether permitting, Sam Baker, whose real middle name is Adventure, will today join his dad and two others on a four-day ascent up the 3,200-foot sheer granite face of Yosemite's L Capitan,

which is widely regarded as one of the toughest climbs in the world. At night, they'll all be hanging off the side in nylon cuts.

Is it scary? Sometimes Sam says, though he's more afraid of sharks and spiders than heights.

Dad is confident, he'll no longer just be Sam, he'll be Sam the youngest to climb L Capitan he told reporters, and he has to earn it.

There's no way to get a kid up a wall like L Capitan without them doing every inch of it. We'll know for sure in a few days.

The World Series is set. When it starts Friday, it'll be the Houston Astros who swept the Yankees against the Philadelphia Phillies who took down the San Diego Padres in five games.

And it was during that championship series that brotherly baseball history was made.

Aaron Nola plays for the Phillies, Austin Nola, for the Padres, and in game two, they became the first siblings to square off in a pitcher-batter match-up in post-season history.

Early in the game, pitcher Aaron got the better of Austin, but revenge came in Austin's second at bat when he singled off Aaron, started to rally and sent his brother to the showers.

Who do their parents root for? Both, of course. Dad wears a Padres hat with a Phillies jersey, and told the New York Times that the boys have worked really hard for this moment, and I'm so dog-on-proud.

Only one could make it to the World Series though, and this time, it's Aaron.

First, the flu tore through two high schools and upended plans in San Diego, California. Now it's sickened more than a thousand kids, which is half the student body, at Stafford High, just outside Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The district canceled all activities and sports over the weekend, and set in the message to parents that it will reassess today.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reports that the flu is hitting earlier and harder this year, and is urging everyone to get a flu shot to make the symptoms less severe.

One U.S. state is getting a bit cheeky in its efforts to cut down on traffic accidents. Highway signs in New Jersey are now flashing drivers with seasonal messages like,

focus, focus, drive with focus, and sarcastic ones like, nice car, does it come with a turn signal?

The new signs are part of Jersey's answer to a sharp rise in crashes, but they might not be having the desired outcome.

The state's Department of Transportation even tweeted this warning, if you keep taking photos of the signs while driving, we will turn this car around and go back to the old messages.

In other kid news notes, 9 zoo lions rushed out of Ukraine when the Russians first invaded last February have finally made it to the U.S.

The rescued pride will have it pretty good at the wild animal sanctuary in Colorado, where they now get to roam across almost 10,000 acres of land near Springfield.

Today marks the start of Diwali, the five day Hindu festival of lights. It's one of the most important in the Hindu religion and celebrates the triumph of good, over evil.
