Let me tell you that several dozen people gathered in North Minneapolis last night at Zion Baptist Church.

For a meeting to talk about violence, it was presided over by Nikima Levy Armstrong.

It's called Guns Down Loves Up, a public awareness campaign.

The council members, Jeremiah Ellison and Philippe Cunningham were in the audience,

as well as a representative of the Minneapolis Park Board.

I want to read you a quote, Marquis Armstrong, a mental health professional,

reminded people that trauma and internalized oppression began with slavery and continued throughout U.S. history.

Hey fella, get over it. I can't take this anymore.

Young guys in North Minneapolis are not shooting each other because of some genetic connection to slavery.

It's preposterous, but I also noted our man spoke. The Reverend Tim Christopher told the group that we have to stop doing the same thing over and over.

And he came up with a novel plan of perhaps instructing the youth of North Minneapolis on how to actually use a weapon and the dangers and consequences it presents.
