Today is Thursday, October 12, 2023, and we begin with, the voters have spoken and a new

Queen of Katmai has been crowned Champion of Fat Bear Week.

Graser, or Bear 128, defeated chunk, number 32, in yesterday's final by more than 85,000

votes.

Mike Fitz, the Explore.org naturalist who kicked off the competition nine years ago, said

the blonde-eared Bountiful Bear is the third female or sour to win the tournament and credits

her warrior-like ferocity and fishing skills for the win.

According to the Washington Post, Graser was a favorite with fans who even turned her name

into a verb, Grazerd, and dubbed her beloved baby's Grazerettes.

The newspaper said Grazer could not be immediately reached for comment, as she is, after all, a

wild animal living in a remote national park in Alaska.

Unfortunately, she won't get any spoils from her success, as Fitz says none of the bears

have any idea about Fat Bear Week.

However, Grazer's win does signal that she is well-suited to survive hibernation, with

enough body mass and then some in the bank.

Speaking of mass, a pumpkin heavyweight has toppled the world record at the 50th World

Championship Pumpkin Way Off.

Minnesota teacher and pumpkin grower Travis Ganger's gourd, nicknamed Michael Jordan, dunked

the competition, topping the scales at 2,749 pounds, and obliterating the previous champ

by 46 pounds.
