And we begin with West Maui, now officially reopened for tourists.

But not everyone is ready to welcome visitors with open arms and flower lays.

But in an area where about 40% of the economy is tied to tourism.

Others, including Governor Josh Green, feel bringing back visitors is essential to help Lahaina recover.

He told local media this would be a gentle start to get hotels and restaurants geared up for the busy holiday months ahead.

As the fighting continues between Israel and the militant group Hamas,

most major airlines have suspended flights to and from Israel for the time being.

A series of international soccer matches scheduled to take place in that country,

including an under-17 tournament due to start today, have been postponed indefinitely.

Among the Americans currently trying to get out are the parents of Detroit Lions Linebacker Alex Anzalone,

who were in a group visiting Jerusalem.

Singer Bruno Mars, currently on a worldwide tour, had performed a concert in Tel Aviv on Wednesday,

but quickly canceled his performance over the weekend.

As for why this war is taking place, the Israelis and Palestinians have been in conflict since the mid-20th century,

with competing claims for land, borders and rights in a region that has a lot of historical and religious significance.
