Hello, I'm David Kornak, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4 for Thursday, July the 10th,

as the Health Secretary appeals to doctors threatening to strike.

I am asking them again today to pause, call off the strikes and instead work with the

government. Ed Miliband's new energy plan goes down badly with the Conservatives. When faced with

the choice between protecting the profits of wind developers or cutting bills for the British people,

he's chosen the wind developers. And a warning that more victims of

the infected blood scandal may die before they get compensation. They have been living for decades,

waiting for justice, and the concerns that delays may mean that they don't get to see it within

their lifetime. But first, unnecessary, unreasonable and unaffordable, West Streeting's response to a

planned strike over pay by resident doctors in England. Previously known as junior doctors,

the medics have said they'll strike for five days from the 25th of July. Their union, the BMA,

says their pay is still 20% below in real terms, what it was in

2008. The Health Secretary began his statement to MPs by highlighting falls in waiting lists.

We've put the NHS on the road to recovery, but we all know that the NHS is still hanging by a thread

and that the BMA is threatening to pull it.

Resident doctors have been awarded an average 5.4% pay rise this year,

where Streeting said that left them almost 29% better off

than before Labour came to power.

The BMA's threatened industrial action is entirely unreasonable.
